‘I’d been toying with the idea to create an original composition of a kid and his ted as a superhero duo. I also wanted them on their way to solve a problem so you wouldn’t see their faces. Hmmm… these self-imposed restrictions meant for a lot of visualising and sketches! I finally decided they would be Batman & Robin and they’d be on their way to save the people of Gotham. The skyline is actually that of Gotham City. I liked the idea of the kid in a simple plastic Batman mask, so just his ears would be visible. It was also part of my original vision that the ted would have a simple costume too, probably borrowed from his mum’s wardrobe – the kid’s not the ted’s! Should point out the eye-mask was probably not from his mum’s wardrobe…’

A pastel blue background with a monochrome palette. Black edges.
